He dismissed Ehlinger on the Indianapolis’ first offensive game, and took him again to third (only to be recalled due to a passer’s call on New England defensive lineman Daniel Akuale). ![]() ![]() Pass rusher Matthew Judon set the tone early for the Patriots against Ehlinger and the Colts. Matthew Judon and Jonathan Jones performed exceptionally. The visitors were restricted to just two yards per game and finished an incredible 0–14 on the third down (as well as 0–2 on the fourth down). It didn’t matter what the bottom or distance was, New England had the answer to whatever the Colts tried to do. In the end, the Patriots recorded an astonishing nine sacks, and sealed the game with an interception return from Jonathan Jones for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for Ehlinger and Indianapolis, it didn’t help much. Sam Ehlinger, making his second NFL debut for the Colts, spent most of the afternoon simply running around to avoid being dismissed. Regardless, Bill Belichick’s defense energetically closed the Colts’ version in front of him on Sunday. Granted, it wasn’t Peyton Manning’s Colts facing the Patriots. Defense did much more than just take care of business. Eliminating any opportunities for gift-giving on guilt will be key after the goodbye week. Meyers’ rumble was recovered by the Colts, while Bourne was lucky enough to be able to fall on the football with teammate JJ Taylor. Jacoby Meyers and Kendrick Bourne both stumbled after the catch. The Patriots barely took advantage of possession time, an indicator that despite the success of the defense, Jones was unable to take full advantage.Ī small part of the progress is that Jones has avoided any inhibitions, a first for him this season.īeyond Jones, his receivers also had days of forgetfulness. Granted, it wasn’t a game that required a lot of passing, but even from an efficiency standpoint, the offense was low. He ended his day 20 of 30 for 147 yards, passing with a touchdown. While it matters less in the absolute context of the game, the fact remains that Jones was held up for another week for a tremendous performance.
